Uruli Bell – A Slice of Kerala in Newcastle If you’re craving the vibrant, spice-laden flavors of Kerala, Uruli Bell in Newcastle is a must-visit. This cozy spot delivers a warm welcome and an authentic taste of India’s southwestern coast — without the long-haul flight. We kicked things off with the Prawn Dynamite, and honestly, it’s worth coming here just for this dish alone. Perfectly fried prawns tossed in a creamy, mildly spicy sauce — it’s the kind of appetizer that makes you wish you’d ordered two. Next up was the Nadan Beef Fry, a Kerala classic done right: tender chunks of beef slow-cooked with aromatic spices, coconut slivers, and curry leaves, offering a deep, earthy heat that lingers in the best way. For mains, we tried both Chicken Kizhi Parotta and Beef Kizhi Parotta — flaky parotta bread wrapped around spicy meat curry, steamed in banana leaves to lock in flavor. The presentation is a delight, and the taste even more so. The Meen Pollichathu — fish marinated with masala and steamed inside banana leaves — was equally impressive, offering a fragrant, tangy punch that’s unmistakably coastal Kerala One note: Uruli Bell doesn’t have a bar, so you’ll need to stick to soft drinks or bring your own pairing ideas. Verdict: With its stand-out Prawn Dynamite, richly spiced beef fry, and authentic banana leaf specialties, Uruli Bell delivers a true Kerala experience in the heart of Newcastle. Go hungry, and go ready to explore.

We went as a group of 14 and had a great time here. The restaurant felt spacious, the menu had so much to choose from, and the service was warm, patient, and super helpful, especially with such a big group. Some dishes really stood out. The Kondattam chicken, lamb curry, kizhi porotta, beef curry, Chettinad chicken curry and the mandi were all excellent. The porotta and appam came out hot and fresh, and the portions were generous. The drinks menu was also impressive, with the Kilipoyi sharbat being a favourite at our table. We also tried vada, pazhampori, and chilli chicken, which were decent too. We were too full for dessert this time unfortunately. What made the experience even better was how the staff guided us through the menu with patience and good recommendations, making ordering for such a large group so much easier. It’s so nice to finally have an authentic South Indian spot in the city with this much variety. Will be definitely back soon. Edit: Palkappa was reallllly good too, especially with the beef curry.

I had a great experience at this Kerala restaurant. I started with some snacks and pappodoms — crispy and fresh. The fish tawa fry was spicy and perfectly cooked, and the parotta was soft with nice layers. The seafood karumur was the highlight — full of flavour and truly captured the authentic Kerala taste. The ambience was pleasant, and the service was good. A great spot for anyone who enjoys real Kerala-style food.

Visited Uruly Bell restaurant last day, easily the best Indo-Arab spot in Newcastle. The name “Uruly Bell” itself sparks nostalgia, especially for Malayalis. We tried the Malabar paratha, which was perfectly layered and soft, and the Chettinadu chicken curry that brought home-style flavors to life. The chilli chicken and fried rice combo has quickly become a personal favorite. The kanthari chicken mandhi packed a fiery punch, true to its name. We also had the sarbath, pappadam and murukku platter, chicken jagajilly, seafood karumuru, and filter coffee. Every dish was absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding. I’m definitely going back. A perfect hangout spot with friends and family.

I had an incredible dining experience! The starter, Chicken Kondattom, was a delight with its perfect blend of spices. The Seafood Karumuree was a standout, with a lovely texture and the aroma of pepper and shallots that really enhanced the flavor. For the main course, the Paal Kappa and Beef were absolutely mouth-melting and delicious. The Chicken Alfahm was a highlight - it was flavorful without being spicy, making it a perfect dish. The Chilly Chicken and Fried Rice were also incredibly tasty. To complement the meal, the Fresh Lemon Juice and Pineapple Juice were refreshing and rejuvenating. Overall, it was a wonderful culinary experience!

I recently visited “URULY BELL” (Kerala Restaurant) and had a truly wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic flavours that reminded me of traditional home-style cooking. Every dish was fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The customer service was just as impressive as the food. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely made me feel welcome throughout the visit. They took the time to explain the menu and ensured that everything was served perfectly. Overall, Kerala Restaurant offers a perfect balance of amazing cuisine and excellent service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic dining experience with a touch of true hospitality.
